Hi Dear 56ers et al!
::: Put me down as a Sept 11 "YES." Note [yup, pun] that I don't use the word 'tentative.' if not now... when? Also, http://www.jack-etc.com/wvhs_56 is still there as a class reminder of both good and sad times. I can wake it in a twinkle and would love to. Send along stuff for inclusion anytime.
::: I'm otherwise ok. I continue playing in The City of Fairfax Band across the Potomac in VA. I continue living in Bethesda, teach a few private lessons to some neat kids and rehearse an older adult group. I'm an Uncle Blabby on Facebook as Jack Mauro and you can catch my restless drift if you wander the other pages on my http://. Soon I'll be a 4th time grand-one, this to be the first boy.
::: I send love to you all and look forward to contributing to the hoopla surrounding this coming Sept - what? I forget - duh... kidding, 1111111 Hugs, Jack

Hi Everyone!! Had to send this off to all of you...Read all the way down and hope you make it...Just got this email and wanted to pass it on to those in the "band". I attended the '07 Band Reunion (the first) and Lord willing, I'll be there this year...it might be our last....duh! Maybe those of us ('56) that get to Pgh. can get together for a "mini reunion" before next year. I have to say, the Band Concert in '07 was just WONDERFUL...weather, performing bands and all those alumni that came.
Thanks to Areta..she's retired, but I'm sure she's responsible for putting this together in some way. She told us in '07 to be prepared for 2010...and here we are. I know this list of contacts is SHORT, so pass the word !!!
Let me know if you're going to make it...we can all plan to go to dinner one night and reminisce
Luv & Hugs to all....

[8/6/08] – Had you been in Rockville, MD tonight with me and Wally, you too would have been here at the Amalfi Ristorante, I bet. Have you given any thought to us doing a fall get-together? Something in the old hometown would be nice.
Also see the new last page here: usnb_alumni. That too was a good time with some REALLY old people in attendance. There were some shipmates dating from the WWII era. Come on! Let’s celebrate WVHS ‘56ers turning 70, or more. Sincerely, Jack

[4/16] - Dear Jack, Anne and Jerry,
First of all, let me add my thanks to Jack for putting together the picture album. It really brought back a lot a good memories from past reunions, and indeed the more remote past.
I have been following the e-mail traffic about a '70th birthday' get-together of WVHS '56. It is a great idea. The '56 dinner we had last September in Millvale before the great WV/NH Alumni Band was a lot of fun. Jerry had some good ideas for possible venues. I do not have a good feel for which location would be the most central, but my instinct is that Charleston, Asheville or Charlottesville might be the best choices, if there is sentiment that we ought to go somewhere other than Pittsburgh. (Should we think about a regional approach?) I would come to any of the suggested places, but travel may be difficult for some people. September or early October seem to me to be the best times; the summer tourists have gone, the weather is still decent, even warm in the South.
Let's keep in touch on this and see if we can make something happen.
Walt
[4/14] - Jerry has just checked-in:
Jack,
I think Ann's idea is good. My suggestions:
1. Since we have a lot pf people in the Tampa Bay area, how about Palm Bay Club/Siesta Keys/Sarasota.?
2. Fort Lauderdale?
3. Savannah/ Hilton Head?
4. Charleston ( I went to a reunion recently at the Holiday Inn in Mount Pleasant which is waterfront, with a chartered dinner boat for a tour of the Charleston harbor)
5. Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC.
Charleston and Savannah are mobbed with tourists in the summer. September would be better.
What about something more centrally located - Charlottesville, Virginia/Boars Head Inn.
Williamsburg is beautiful but way too many tourists in the warm months.
Best regards,
Jerry Miller
[4/11/08] Dear ‘Classies,' … I received the below message from Anne Babcock a few days ago. I urge us all to think of a quick-and-easy plan for a gathering. Sooner is always better than later. I’d love to post your suggestions here on this mishmash of a website. Sincerely, Jack

Hey, Jackie,
Really enjoyed strolling down that memory lane! Thanks for sharing.
I have spoken or written to a couple of folks in recent months. It just seems that a 70th birthday celebration for classmates is in order, somewhere, sometime this year! But the devil is in the details. I don't have any brilliant ideas, other than it should be something that doesn't involve a lot of planning or work by any group of people. A cruise comes to mind, or a long weekend at some resort, or.....any ideas? Hugs, Anne
[4/7/08] We’re out of touch again, aren’t we? Here’s a reminder of us as we were 4 reunions ago in September of 1991. Enjoy and use this as an excuse to get back in touch with classmates. Sincerely, Jack Mauro

YOU GOTTA LOVE THE STEELER FANS
A Steelers fan liked to amuse himself by scaring every Browns fan he
saw strutting down a Pittsburgh street in an obnoxious orange and
brown shirt. He would swerve his van as if to hit them, then swerve
back just missing them.
One day, while driving along on the North Side, he saw a priest
walking along the street. He thought he would do a good deed, so he
pulled over and asked the priest, 'Where are you going, Father?'
'I'm going to give Mass at St. Francis church, about two miles down
the road,' replied the priest.
'Climb in, Father. I'll give you a lift!'
The priest climbed into the passenger seat, and they continued down
the road.
Suddenly, the driver saw a Browns fan walking down the road, and he
instinctively swerved as if to hit him. But, as usual, he swerved back
onto the road just in time. Even though he was certain that he had
missed the guy, he still heard a loud THUD.
Not knowing where the noise came from, he glanced in his mirrors but
still didn't see anything.
He then remembered the priest, and he turned to the priest and said,
'Sorry, Father, I almost hit that Browns fan!'
'That's OK,' replied the priest, 'I got him with the door.'
Dear classmates: Although the original site at http://journals.aol.com/westviewhs56/at50 will still be there, I've moved us here. If you'd like to add pictures or commentary, please send them along. Stay in touch.

Saturday, September 22 2007 was the occasion of a spectacularly presented event in the North Hills High School Martorelli Stadium.
The Alumni Band group included 'kids' dating from the 1940s in the West View era. The program listed more than 250 band, majorette and flag participants.
Saturday's program was also the occasion of the NHHS 47th Annual Marching Band Festival which featured 10 regional bands including NH. The most notable difference between the then-and-now styles in marching bands is the influence of 'corp style' marching. Many drum & bugle corp routines are computer designed and are a complex candy for the eyes. This is in combination with strong, energetic musical performance. Sometime take a moment to Google DCI and sample from the Drum Corp International archives.
All of the bands in this festival were different, each with its own distinctive style. The South Fayette "Little Green Machine" Marching Band was a special joy. They danced and kicked, and were all over the field in addition to playing well. They received a standing ovation. The closer for the evening was The Indiana University of Pennsylvania, "The Legend" Marching Band. They were very polished and closed the evening with a stunning rendition of Amazing Grace. The entire festival was enthusiastically received.
We extend special thanks to Ms Areta Kalogeras, her students, staff colleagues and parents group for making it such a special day. Bravo North Hills High School for carrying on with the active and warm traditions that we so fondly remember.
WVHS 56ers and others who drop in here... Please contribute your pictures and commentary.
Sincerely, Jack Mauro
